How the Selection Works

DNS Sponsorship selection at companies like Maersk, Anglo Eastern, MSC and Fleet Management typically involves three stages: a written examination, psychometric testing, and a personal interview. All three must be cleared to receive the sponsorship. Close to 95% of selections are purely merit-based — written tests, psychometric scores, and interview performance. References and recommendations play almost no role.

Stage 1 — Written Examination

The written test typically covers:

• Mathematics — Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Basic Calculus
• Physics — Mechanics, Waves, Electricity, Optics
• English — Grammar, comprehension, vocabulary
• General Aptitude — Reasoning, problem-solving, spatial awareness
• General Knowledge — Maritime industry basics, current affairs

Stage 2 — Psychometric Testing

Psychometric tests assess personality traits, stress resilience, team compatibility, and decision-making style. These cannot be "crammed" for but they can be prepared for. Understanding what shipping companies are looking for — and presenting your genuine strengths in that context — is something 9CC coaches in every batch.

Stage 3 — Personal Interview

The personal interview assesses communication skills, confidence, general awareness of the maritime industry, and your motivation for joining Merchant Navy. Interviewers can tell within minutes whether a candidate has genuinely researched the profession or is just chasing a salary.
