Already have a B.Tech or engineering degree? You can still join Merchant Navy. Here are your options.
Book Your Seat →If you already hold a B.Tech or engineering degree, Merchant Navy is still accessible through specific bridge programmes. The most relevant are GME (Graduate Marine Engineer) and ETO (Electro-Technical Officer) routes.
The GME course is a 1-year programme specifically designed for graduates of mechanical engineering who want to join the Engine department of a merchant ship. After completing GME and the required sea-time, you are eligible to sail as a 4th Engineer.
💡 GME is significantly better than starting as an Engine Cadet — you skip the Cadet phase and enter directly at 4th Engineer salary ($2,800/month). Your engineering degree has real value here.
The ETO course is for graduates of Electrical Engineering or Electronics and Communication Engineering. After a 4-month course and sea training, you sail as an Electro-Technical Officer on ships. ETO is a growing department — modern ships have complex electrical systems that need dedicated specialists.
If you have any degree and are under 25, you can still pursue DNS Sponsorship on the Deck side. The eligibility check is the same — PCM at Class 12, age under 25, medical fit. Your degree is not required for DNS, but it does not disqualify you.
9CC counsellors regularly guide engineering graduates on the best route into Merchant Navy based on their degree, age and preference. WhatsApp us with your background and we will map out exactly which route works best for you.
